Yesterday we did a comparison of the two latest premium segment smartphones launched lately, the Apple iPhone 8 Plus and the Google Pixel 2 XL. After finishing another research on the top 5 trending smartphones of the year we found that the next comparison is going to be between the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Apple iPhone 8 Plus. While we realize that the iPhone was just announced last week, Note 8 on the other hand was announced way back in August. Still we think that both the smartphones are one of the finest creations of the year, let’s find out which one is a better option.
Design and Looks
Apple has been following a similar design strategy for a long time this day and age. Though the form-factor is handy and all its users love the smartphone because of which. But if we talk about any major upgrades, then there’s nothing too updated on the Apple iPhone. However, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 on the other hand looks completely refreshed and the bezel-less display also takes all the charm.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a 6.3-inch display that offers 1440 x 2960 pixel resolution, 18.5:9 aspect ratio that delivers ~521 ppi pixel density. The Note 8 measures 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm in dimensions and weighs 195grams. While on the other hand, the iPhone 8 Plus is smaller in size measuring 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.5 mm in dimensions, however weighs 202grams. The display on the iPhone is a 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD that offers Full HD 1080x1920pixels resolution.
Chipset and OS
Samsung generally uses either their home brewed Exynos SoC or the one from Qualcomm. The company has offered the most recent Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip on the Note 8 coupled with Adreno 540GPU and 6GB of RAM. The various storage options are also available starting from 64GB. Apple iPhone 8 Plus on the other hand boasts a Hexa-core Apple A11 Bionic chipset joined with three-core Apple GPU. The iPhone is running on the latest iOS 11 OS, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is running on Android 7.1 Nougat OS.
In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 packs a dual rear camera setup while the Apple iPhone 8 Plus also comes with a dual camera sensor. However, don’t be fooled by the number of cameras as it’s the quality that matters after all.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features dual rear 12-megapixel sensor at f/1.7 aperture and dual tone LED flash. The front camera on the device is an 8-megapixel shooter that also offers f/1.7 aperture. The rear camera records 4K videos while the front camera only records Full HD videos.
Apple iPhone 8 Plus on the other hand also packs a dual 12-megapixel sensor that can record 4K videos at an aperture of f/1.8. While the front camera on the other hand is a 7-megapixel shooter that offers f/2.2 aperture and record Full HD videos.
Which one should you buy?
Well I know that the die-hard Apple fans will always go for the classy iPhone 8 Plus. But if you really need a smartphone that could do much more than just capturing good photographs and offering an unmatchable user experience, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 could be the best option for you. The vast number of Android applications that actually work in India and a swift user experience along with one of the best cameras make the Galaxy Note 8 the pick of the day.
