Garmin has added another lightweight activity tracker to its arsenal of smartwatches to appeal more to the step-counting crowd than the mountain-climbing ones. The company just announced its new Vivofit 4, which sounds pretty similar to the Vivofit 3.

The Garmin Vivofit 4 packs a coin cell battery that should last at least a year before you have to replace the battery. The smartwatch syncs with smartphones over Bluetooth and pairs with a companion iOS / Android app, called Garmin Connect. It also automatically tracks activities and is water-resistant, so you can wear it in the pool or shower.

As far as the key differences are concerned between the new model and its predecessor seems to be its aesthetic. The Vivofit 4 comes in a variety of subdued patterns, including a speckled black and neon yellow version, as opposed to its predecessor vibrant patterns. Further, the Vivofit 4 also includes a silver button on the front.

The smartwatch also packs a color display which is sunlight-readable. Its small, but it’s always-on. There’s also support for Garmin’s Toe-to-Toe feature, which lets you have step competitions with your kids wearing a Viviofit Jr. tracker. It seems odd that you can’t do that with another Vivofit 4, but Garmin is pretty explicit it’s for pairing with the kids’ tracker.

The latest Vivofit 4 is available through Amazon for $79.99, pitting it directly against lower-cost Fitbits and other basic wearables.
