After silently launching the Samsung Galaxy Tab A in Vietnam last month, Samsung has once again secretly launched its new tab in India. The company announced an upgraded variant of the Galaxy Tab A launched in the year 2015. The tab has received some minute upgrades in terms of camera and battery department compared to its predecessor and is launched at a price tag of Rs. 17,990 for the 4G LTE.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2017) features an 8-inch WXGA (1280 x 800 pixels) display. The display is brighter this time and offers 480nits of brightness. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. The tablet packs 16GB of inbuilt storage out of which 9.5GB is available for use. It also comes with expandable storage of up to 256GB via microSD card and runs on Android 7.1 Nougat OS. The tablet supports a single Nano-SIM card and there’s no mention of voice calling support though.

The latest Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) now features an 8-megapixel primary camera with f/1.9 aperture and flash, and a 5-megapixel front. While the earlier Tab A (2015) came with a 5-megapixel rear camera without flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Connectivity options on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and GPS + GLONASS/Beidou.

As far as software is concerned, the Galaxy Tab A comes with Bixby Home that gives quick access to favourite apps and contents on the tab. It comes equipped with Bixby Reminder but does not have Bixby Voice. Samsung has also added game launcher for uninterrupted play and Kids Mode for a digital playground for kids. For the latter, Samsung has partnered with some major content providers includes Lego, Taco Boca, and more.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2017) measures 212.1×124.1×8.9mm in dimensions and weighs 364grams and is slightly thicker and heavier than the 2015 model due to its newer and upgraded 5000mAh battery.

Samsung has also launched a book cover accessory that doubles up as a stand for the tablet. The accessory is available separately at a price of Rs.2,499.
