Available for Rs. 22999, Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe might not be something new that we haven’t used but is sure to keep you hooked. The upgrade might be just the looks, but still it isn’t the bad modification; it feels more desirable this time.

Design and Appearance

The first thing you will notice about this latest smartphone is its multi-faced back panel, which feels ridiculously cool when you hold the handset. But between the gem-like finishing, the rear-mounted volume rocker get little lost this time, still the back panel makes Deluxe looks amazing. The good thing is back panel is removable, and you get some good color options to swap it.

Further, the front throws off the same 5.5-inches IPS capacitive touch screen with sensors, earpiece and 5MP secondary camera located above the display. The bottom comprises the usual capacitive buttons at the bottom.

The sides have been left blank while you can locate a 3.5mm audio jack, power button, and a mic at the top edge. There are a mciroUSB port and another mic located at the bottom edge. Further, at 170 grams Deluxe felt a bit hefty to carry around. The handset despite its size sits comfortably in the hand.

The display remains the same what we saw in Asus Zenfone 2. The ZenFone 2 Deluxe too features a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS Touch Screen protected with a Gorilla Glass 3. It offers same 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. For the price it comes for, ZenFone 2 Deluxe offers a good amount of pixels- 401 pixels per inch to be precise.

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe Display

The screen seemed quite good with the acceptable amount of sharpness. It delivered good contrast level though colors seem bit colder. We found viewing angles quite good. Overall, the display seemed bright enough, and images and texts looked crisp. Further, the sunlight legibility was decent enough if not good. Check here to read more on Screen: Click Here

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe’s 13MP Rear Camera comes with a manual mode similar to which is found in DSLRs. It further includes an aperture of f/2.0 and a dual-tone LED flash. The handset has the same 5MP front snapper.

The pictures clicked with Deluxe seemed minutely better than what we got from Zenfone 2. It managed to snap some good shots in daylight while the use of Dual LED Flash makes low light shots look decent enough. Macro seemed good enough while focusing speed is fast too. The selfies clicked with Deluxe are quite decent.

ZenUI on top, Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. The UI is full of bloatware littered on the home screen and added features apart from options that cannot be found in stock Android. We like the fact that Asus has made its UI customizable. Users can download several themes and customize interface’s aspects. Asus ZenUI features the same double-tap-to-sleep/wake feature found in previous handsets.

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe Software and UI

The best thing about ZenUI is the despite heavy customization; the UI felt responsive. When you use the handset, you won’t feel that the customized interface is slowing down the handset’s performance. The video above might give an insight of what the ZenUI looks like.

Hardware and Performance

Asus’s new Android Smartphone comes added with Intel Atom Z3580 Quad Core 64bit 2.3GHz Processor coupled with 4GB RAM. This hardware setup makes the Deluxe run quite smoothly. I hardly experienced any lags or stutters while using the handset, despite the fact that it comes loaded with tons of pre-loaded apps.

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe Hardware and Performance

We made the handset run on different synthetic benchmark tests, and the results were quite impressive. The AnTuTu score was rated at 48860, which is quite close to the original Asus Zenfone 2 and higher than Galaxy Note 4.

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe NenaMark 2 rating

The NenaMark 2 rating was calculated at 59.6FPS, making the handset good for heavy graphics applications. We were able to access multiple apps without any lags. Further, the handset includes the same PowerVR G6430 GPU, making it run graphics intensive games without any signs of freezes of hiccups. Multi-tasking is a breeze and animations felt smooth.

Gaming on Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe

Further, the mobile phone uses a Non-removable Li-Po 3000mAh battery that manages to last up to 10 hours on normal usage with a full charge. But the phone barely lasts around 6 hours when the handset is put to heavy usage. The good thing is Deluxe supports fast charging and can power up the battery life to full in an hour. Moreover, the heating issue that we faced in Zenfone 2 doesn’t seem to bother the Deluxe.

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe phone BatteryFurther, the call quality was quite good, and voice was audible from both the sides. The sound from the speaker was quite loud and clear. Then there are various features that might make Deluxe fun to use. The handset comes with ZenMotion offering users with One Hand Mode, touch gesture and Shake-Shake to capture the screen shot. It comes with Glove Mode, and other Asus customized settings. The handset we had offered 64GB of internal storage, which is adequate for all the heavy users. Still if it feels low, the Deluxe too comes in a 128GB variant.

Final Verdict

At the time, when you are eagerly waiting for an invite for OnePlus 2; Asus Zenfone 2 might fill up that gap and that desire to own a powerful handset under 25k. Its battery life might disappoint a bit, but then the new design concept with multi-faced back panel makes Deluxe interesting. As said for Zenfone 2, the same goes for Deluxe too. The handset is sure to garner attention from people with a love for mobile gaming, and this time it is sure to bring together both the Audiophiles and Photography enthusiasts too. The latest from Asus is an admirable smartphone that is sure to stand tough against OnePlus 2.
