The selfie trend is stretching its arms immensely and is refusing to die down any time soon. All the major smartphone makers are making phones that can capture jaw-dropping photographs with their front cameras. Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is yet another smartphone to follow the trend. Manufactured by the Taiwanese smartphone maker, the smartphone was launched recently by the company in the Indian market. The selfie-centric Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro boasts a 24-megapixel front-facing dual camera setup and competes against the Chinese counterparts including Oppo F5 and Vivo V7.

Talking about the hardware first. The Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro features a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The smartphone packs 4GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage which is further expandable up to 2TB via a Hybrid Micro SD card slot. The smartphone bears a front-facing dual camera setup with a 24-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor. The primary lens is a Sony IMX362 shooter that comes at an aperture of f/1.8. Technically the camera is only shooting a 12-megapixel selfie, however with the help of Asus DuoPixel technology, the smartphone combines the photographs and delivers a 24-megapixel shot. Further, the smartphone comes with PDAF, a soft light flash and is capable of recording videos at 4K resolution. It also features a 16-megapixel sensor located at the rear side of the smartphone.

The dual SIM Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro runs on Android Nougat OS based Zen UI skin with support for 4G LTE and VoLTE connectivity.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Design

The Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro boasts a unibody metal design that looks premium and stylish. The smartphone is lightweight weighing at roughly 147grams and is also sleek at just 7mm.

The Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro features narrow bezels, which along with the curved Corning Gorilla Glass complements the overall design of the smartphone.

An LED flash along with the dual cameras and a couple of other sensors are located on the top front panel. While the rear occupies the square shaped camera and LED flash followed by the Asus branding engraved in the centre.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display. The display looks crisp and has great viewing angles in indoor lighting. The icons look sharp and the colours are well balanced in indoor scenarios. The display delivered a good overall experience while playing games, watching videos etc. However, the only downside to its AMOLED panel is that the screen isn’t bright enough to stand against the Delhi’s harsh sun.

mage 5Power button and volume rocker keys are located on the right side of the smartphone and are easy to access. Fingerprint scanner was quick to unlock the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro on most occasions. The recent apps and back buttons are capacitive and light up the keys for a few seconds whenever you start using the phone, which I admit look good and are helpful during initial use.

In regular use, I found the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro easy to use with a single hand due to its sleek construct. It’s handy to carry inside the pocket as well as in the palm of your hand. However, the rear side of the handset is a bit slippery and would recommend to cover the device for additional protection.

Overall, the smartphone scores high on aesthetics and is a device that I’d love to flaunt.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Performance

Powering the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is an Octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone is running on a Custom UI Skin manufactured by Asus just like the one found on any other Zenfones. Like other Zenfone series devices, the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is also backed by some pre-loaded applications. However, the applications are well stacked and never affect the UI in terms of overall experience.

In regular use, the performance of the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is without a doubt smooth and we didn’t notice any major lags while the phone was with us during testing. The Selfie Pro was snappy and took care of our multitasking with ease. Also, there was no stutter when switching between apps or playing high-end games on the phones.

As far as gaming and app experience is concerned, the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro was capable of handling the daily tasks with much ease. Most of the graphic intensive games like Asphalt-8, Asphalt Xtreme and Nova 3 were played on the phone without any delay in frame rates or heating issues. Google chrome worked fantastically with multiple tabs running in the background. Watching videos online was also a good experience without any lags or crashes.

The best part about the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is its vivid AMOLED panel that produces fantastic colors. The phones snappy performance in regular use. And the loudspeaker that delivers louder than usual audios to amplify your movie and music experience.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Camera Performance

Camera is the biggest highlight of the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro. The smartphone boasts a 24-megapixel front facing dual lens snapper. The setup consists of a 24-megapixel DuoPixel lens offering an aperture of f/1.8 and a 5-megapixel wide-angle shooter at aperture f/2.2. It is also powered by a 16-megapixel secondary sensor which is located at the rear side of the smartphone. Both the rear and front sensors can record videos at 4K resolution.

As far as the camera performance is concerned. The Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro never disappointed us with its camera. Both the front and rear sensors are capable of capturing stunning photos in daylight conditions. The photos captured on the phone have great amount of details in them, and the colors look close to natural in bright sunlight. In such cases the camera is quick to focus and gets the task done without breaking a sweat.

However, in comparison to daylight, the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro may take a little longer to shift focus in low-light conditions and the images may also get blurred sometimes.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Battery Life

Battery is the key area where Asus has extensively been working on for a long time. The company also came up with a 5000mAh battery powered smartphone before any other manufacturer. In comparison to such an impressive R&D, the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro only packs a 3000mAh battery, which in most cases gets consumed by the evening. For a mediocre user, the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro should last about a day, however if you’re a hardcore user, then carrying a charger with you while travelling is a must.

Final Verdict

There’s no denying that the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro could’ve been the best Zenfone ever due to its fantastic camera setup and lively AMOLED display. Both the rear and front cameras are good for capturing vivid live videos and photos. And if you’re a user who’s always active on social media, the Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro could turn into a good investment. However, the washed out display in bright sunlight and the phone’s battery life still give us some space to fit in other devices at such a costly price tag.
