Reviewing the Sony SRS-XB10 wasn’t tough at all. We saw the unit at the launch event and were very surprised by its sound output calibre along with its other features. The speaker was compact, lightweight and could connect to multiple devices. Well, let’s just leave the output and sound quality for later section and talk about the product for some time. Sony unveiled the series in the month of April this year with three other Bluetooth speakers and an all new series of MDR series headphones.

The Sony SRS-XB10 was the smallest amongst all the speakers, yet everything was packed equally well inside the box. The speaker is splashproof, and the best part is that it offers up-to 16-hours of battery life. Let’s look at the highlighting features and then we’ll talk about other aspects.

  • EXTRA bass
  • 46mm speaker size- more than enough for enjoying good music
  • Yes to NFC
  • Lightweight nearly 260grams
  • Bluetooth 4.2 which saves battery life
  • Up to unbelievable 16hours of battery life
  • Audio input
  • Built-in microphone for speakerphone capabilities
  • Micro USB charging

Look and Feel

The Sony SRS-XB10 speaker has a stubby little form factor. It’s as big as a cricket ball and looks fantastic. The size looks really compact for the quality of bass that it delivers. It is available in multiple colors and has a water-resistant build. The battery life is a big advantage over the other Bluetooth speakers available in market.

Sony SRS-XB10 features

The other highlighting features of the speaker are a detachable strap that can also be used as a speaker stand in horizontal mode and the ability to pair two speakers at a time to deliver surround sound experience. The rubber strap can used to hang the speaker to bicycle, door handle or a nail. However, we mostly used the speaker by keeping it directly on surface.

Sony SRS-XB10 speaker features

The Sony SRS-XB10 has a rubberized, soft-to-touch finish which feels fantastic in regular use. It may receive some dust during regular use, which you can easily clean off with a damp cloth. Although, the rubberized finish is soft and also gives it a somewhat rugged feeling, we never expected it to survive a fall. The speaker has a tiny grip which holds the surface really well. Despite the diminutive size, the speaker sounds loud enough to fill a room with loud music. Also, the SRS-XB10 may survive a few splashes kept beside the pool; however you cannot dunk it in the water for long.

Sony SRS-XB10 speaker water-resistant

The buttons are placed on the lower half of the speaker. The keys have a spongy coating that requires additional strength to avail full response. You may need to press the keys more than once to get the expected response. There is a flap at the bottom of the speaker under which there’s a 3.5mm audio jack that can be used to connect it to computer or music player.

Audio Output

The Sony SRS-XB10 has the latest version of Bluetooth 4.2 for connectivity. You can connect one device at a time to the speaker, but connecting multiple at a single point of time is not possible due to the lack of multi-point support. The speaker offers NFC pairing that makes connecting super simple, while on the other hand; the 3.5mm connectivity jack is also available in it to give additional options.

The speaker features a large 46mm driver on top along with a passive radiator mounted at the bottom. There are vents at the bottom of the speaker that allows the speaker to deliver additional bass. When the air is pushed from one side to the other, this helps the speaker in delivering additional bass. We mostly used the speaker at nearly 70-percent audio level, which was good enough for a single room. The sound was clear throughout the testing period and the bass was punchy considering its size. Just like majority of the Sony products, the SRS-XB10 worked well with most of the music genres delivering accurate audios. The speaker is best suited for EDM, classic Bollywood songs, pop music, hip-hop and soft music that you may enjoy while reading. The ability to pair additional speaker also gives the SRS-XB10 an edge over the other products available in market.

Final Verdict

The Sony SRS-XB10 is a compact little speaker which is available in multiple colors across online and offline sellers. The speaker is loud and offers strong music output considering its price. It packs multiple connection options which gives it an edge over most of other products available in the market. Although the speaker is not water-proof, its water-resistant capabilities still act as an advantage to it. Lastly, nearly 16 hours of battery life is more than enough to last nearly a week.
